Obedience Laboratory Classes


A well trained dog is a happy dog!


Classes Offered:  

BASIC CLASS:   7 week course. 8 hour class time.

Week 1:   Do not bring your dog. It will be a 2 hour orientation. The following 6 weeks, 1 hour a week with your dog.

Dogs over 4 months old:   This course will introduce handler to basics of responsible dog ownership and training. Special attention is given to discipline problems. Basic training will include heeling (controlled walking), sit, down, come command, and stay exercises. The focus of this class is to develop a good canine citizen for the benefit of your family, neighborhood, and community.

ADVANCED CLASS:   7 weeks, one hour a week.

Prerequisite:   Successful completion of Basic class. Continues work on solid basic control with numerous distractions. Gradual approach to off-leash training. Focus on attention handling.

MOTIVATIONAL TRAINING CLASS:
6 weeks, one hour a week.

Prerequisite:   Instructor approval. Learning how play should be part of training. Motivational techniques. Use play to build speed and enthusiasm. This class will also help students to prepare for showing in obedience trials.

JUMPING AND RETRIEVING CLASS:
6 weeks, one hour a week.

Continued work on motivational training. Introduce retrieving skills and jumping techniques. Will cover all levels of obedience exercises.

PROOFING CLASS:   Every Wednesday night at 6:30-8:00

This class is intended for students interested in showing in obedience trials or those who want to continue working with their dog. (Novice, open, and utility) exercises will be covered.

PRIVATE LESSONS:  Available by appointment.
